LA PAZ, May 16 (Xinhua) -- The president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of Bolivia, Oscar Hassenteufel, said Friday that former President Evo Morales will be able to register as a candidate for the general elections on Aug. 17 if he is with a legally constituted political party and presents the required documentation.
However, Hassenteufel clarified at a press conference that Morales' authorization will depend on a subsequent evaluation by the TSE in accordance with current regulations and laws.
"If he appears with a party and presents the documents that must be presented, he will be registered, and at the time, it will be the Electoral Tribunal that will rule on whether he is authorized or not," he pointed out.
Regarding the recent march of supporters of the former president, the TSE chief said that they have the right to demonstrate, but should do so in a peaceful manner.
The deadline for registering candidacies ends on May 19, and the official list of qualified candidates is expected to be released on June 6. ■
